This is my first Linux and I have it on numerous machines including:

A little 'Tiny' Computer (Not tiny as in small, Tiny as in the computer manufacturer!) This had a 16 GB harddrive, 256 MB of memory, a 400Mhz processor (Too slow to be true...with windows) And the loudest fan noise ever known to man. I bought this computer 3rd hand from a car boot for £25. Not bad, the only problem began with a 'W' and ended with an 'S'. You guessed it - Windows! It came with Windows XP which was fine until I bought an ethernet adapter and connected to the internet. The initial problem was viruses. I therefore downloaded a free anti virus - problem solved. The second problem was Windows update which refused to work as it said my copy of Windows was not 'genuine'. The computer ground to a halt, nothing would work without a box popping up saying 'Your software may not be genuine, tell Microsoft and we'll charge you £90 for the pleasure of doing it'

I had heard vaguely of free software. I then desperately searched Google for free software. On top of the list was something called Ubuntu I browsed their site and in the end I managed to find a link so that they can send you a CD for FREE I hadn't heard of such a thing at the time and it felt like a oasis in a desert.

It arrived and I installed it (f*** you Microsoft!) I still use it today - 4 years on for internet surfing and general computing. I love Ubuntu - it started me onto Linux - now I use nothing but. I even installed Ubuntu on an Intel iMac (As well as Mac OS 10.5).

(I installed it on a Dell with a 10 GB hard drive, 800Mhz prosessor with 512 MB of RAM and a few other computers but that's another story)
